National Marfan Foundation

I love when we have sponsors that allow us to bring light to something people often know very little about, especially when that knowledge could end up saving lives. For instance, have you ever heard of Marfan syndrome? Marfan syndrome is a genetic disorder that weakens multiple body systems, including the heart, blood vessels, bones and joints, lungs and eyes. The life-threatening part of Marfan syndrome is actually the weakening of the aorta, the large artery that carries blood away from the heart.

What we hope to do today is raise awareness of this disorder, and help spread the word about the National Marfan Foundation, the only nonprofit health organization in the U.S. devoted to Marfan syndrome and related disorders. The issue with Marfan syndrome is that without diagnosis or treatment, you could be at risk of a sudden early death from a torn or ruptured aorta. However, with diagnosis and treatment, someone with Marfan syndrome can live a normal lifespan. This is why the National Marfan Foundation is so great, because they aid in research, support, education and advocacy for Marfan syndrome.

We hope you take a second today to educate yourself on the features of Marfan syndrome, and to check out the National Marfan Foundation and all they do to support this cause. If you didn't know about Marfan syndrome before, now you know!

It’s amazing the way technology has, in a sense, made the world smaller and brought information we might never have had to our fingertips. I wonder what number of people have lived longer because they have gotten information they needed to support and get treatment for Marfan Syndrome. This organization is another way that supports helping people recognize the symptoms of Marfan Syndrome and save lives that could have been lost due to lack of knowledge :)
